Final works on the Metrobus project at Açude Bridge and the right bank of the Mondego River
As part of the Metrobus construction project for the Portagem – Coimbra-B section—commissioned by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP)—a series of key infrastructure works in the area of the Ponte Açude and the right bank of the Mondego River is now entering its final phase.
Between August 3 and 21, the construction of the Águas de Coimbra stormwater drainage system will be completed, and final urban landscaping will be carried out on the right bank of the Mondego, near the Portuguese Environment Agency facilities. These interventions are essential for completing the project and upgrading the public space at this important city gateway.
To ensure the work is carried out safely and efficiently, temporary traffic restrictions will be implemented on the lower deck of the Ponte Açude during this period. This phase has been scheduled to coincide with the summer holiday season, when traffic volumes in the city typically decrease.
Pedestrian access between the two banks of the Mondego will remain available via the Ponte Açude, while road traffic will be diverted to the structure's upper deck.

Metro Mondego, Infraestruturas de Portugal, Águas de Coimbra, and the Municipality of Coimbra appreciate the public's understanding regarding the temporary disruptions associated with the completion of this important phase of the project. These works represent another decisive step toward the realization of the Metrobus system and the improvement of mobility, urban drainage, and the quality of public space in Coimbra.
