Changes to traffic flow on Alameda Armando Gonsalves

Starting June 22nd, Alameda Armando Gonsalves will enter the final phase of its transformation with the progress of the urban section of the Metrobus Avenida Aeminium - Hospital Pediátrico, promoted by Infraestruturas de Portugal. This stage involves the temporary reorganization of traffic, essential to continue a project that will significantly improve the city's mobility.

The attached image shows the road circuit scheme during the final phase of the intervention, which is expected to take place during the school holidays.

Maintaining the traffic scheme that has been in effect in recent months, traffic will shift to the already completed lanes on the side of the former Pediátrico hospital, with one lane in each direction. Access to existing parking areas on Alameda Armando Gonsalves remains guaranteed, as does access to the Celas Saúde Family Health Unit (USF).

The current SMTUC bus stop, located next to the Alameda Calouste Gulbenkian roundabout, will be moved to its permanent location next to the former Pediatric Hospital parking lot (Celas–HUC direction). In the opposite direction, the SMTUC bus stop will be moved back to the front of the Hotel Coimbra Aeminium.

Pedestrian traffic will remain protected, as will the circulation of emergency vehicles.

This phase of the work is part of a set of fundamental interventions for the modernization of Alameda Armando Gonsalves. The works include the renovation of the water and drainage networks, the construction of the dedicated Metrobus lane, road resurfacing, improved public lighting, and the reorganization of signage and safety measures. The intervention also aims for better urban integration, promoting a more functional, safe space adapted to current mobility needs.
