Starting Tuesday, April 15, Alameda Armando Gonsalves will enter a new phase of urban transformation with the progress of the works on the urban section of the Metrobus, between Avenida Aeminium and the Pediatric Hospital, promoted by Infraestruturas de Portugal. This stage involves the temporary reorganization of traffic, essential to continue a project that will significantly improve mobility in the city.

The image shows the road circuit diagram during the first phase of the intervention, which is estimated to last four months.

During this phase of the intervention, traffic on Alameda Armando Gonsalves will be reorganised to enable the works to progress, with two-way traffic on the western side (next to Escola Martim de Freitas), with one lane in each direction. This temporary solution was designed to ensure mobility during the execution of the works.

Access from Alameda Armando Gonsalves to Rua São Teotónio will be temporarily closed, and will be reopened as soon as the progress of the works allows, always ensuring safety and the smooth running of the intervention.

The current SMTUC bus stop, located next to the old Paediatrics car park (Celas–HUC direction), will be relocated to an area close to the roundabout on Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian, ensuring continuity of the service and greater traffic flow.
Pedestrian traffic will remain protected, as will the circulation of emergency vehicles.
With special attention to the safety of the school community, areas will be made available for students from the Martim de Freitas School to drop off and pick up their vehicles. These areas will allow for quick and safe stops, and will not be permitted on the roadway or near the access stairs from Alameda Armando Gonsalves.
This phase of the work includes a set of fundamental interventions for the modernization of Alameda Armando Gonsalves. The work includes the renovation of the water and drainage networks, the construction of the dedicated Metrobus channel, the repaving of the road, the improvement of public lighting and the reorganization of signage and safety. The intervention also aims to improve urban integration, promoting a more functional, safe space adapted to current mobility needs.
To facilitate adaptation to this new phase of work and minimize potential impacts on traffic, it is recommended to use navigation applications such as Waze or Google Maps. These platforms already include information on temporary changes, allowing drivers to choose the most appropriate routes in real time.
As a complement to the information provided, the informative webinar promoted by the Martim de Freitas School Group, with the participation of Coimbra City Council, Metro Mondego and Infraestruturas de Portugal, is available for viewing, where the intervention plan for this area was presented in detail.
