Following construction work on the Portagem – Coimbra-B urban section of the Mondego Mobility System (SMM), led by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), a short-term traffic closure will be implemented in the Coimbra B tunnel, essential for the safe execution of the work that will take place between 10:00 AM on July 15, 2025, and 11:00 PM on July 16, 2025.
The constraints imposed by this short-term closure are now minimized by the recently implemented traffic detours in the Choupal Tunnel area, which allow access to Avenida Fernão de Magalhães from Rua Pinto dos Santos.
However, the alternative adopted on other occasions when the tunnel closure was necessary will still be valid, with traffic flowing via Estrada do Campo, Estrada do Loreto, Rua Manuel Madeira, and Rua Manuel de Almeida e Sousa.
This traffic restriction is due to the need to carry out preparatory work for the construction of the second phase of the new Metrobus deck over the Coimbra B tunnel. This work consists of the erection of falsework, formwork, concreting and stripping.
