Metro Mondego already has the entire fleet of the Mondego Mobility System in its Materials and Workshops Park (PMO), and is continuing to carry out exhaustive tests to ensure compliance with the required technical specifications, as well as integration with the infrastructure and technical systems.
The 35 articulated, electric buses measuring approximately 19 metres in length, as well as the battery charging system, were awarded by Metro Mondego to the company Energia Fundamental – Mobilidade Elétrica Lda., corresponding to an investment of 40.5 million euros in vehicles and equipment. This investment is supported by European funds, through the Sustainable 2030 Programme. To this amount is added a charge of 12.7 million euros, relating to maintenance services during the 15-year useful life of the vehicles. Operating on dedicated lanes and with priority at intersections, the Mondego Mobility System will ensure greater reliability of supply and a significant reduction in travel times. This new mode of transport, known as Metrobus, promises to be a significant milestone in the modernisation of the region's public transport system, offering a modern, efficient, comfortable and sustainable alternative.
The Metrobus project is an innovative and environmentally friendly solution, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions and promoting the use of public transport as an alternative to private vehicles, making a significant contribution to the environmental policy objectives of the country and the region. A new mobility is emerging.
