Starting next Monday, October 6th, Metro Mondego will increase the frequency and time interval of the Preliminary Operation of the Mondego Mobility System (SMM), on the urban section between Portagem station and Vale das Flores station in Coimbra, in order to intensify the testing phase and also offer greater mobility to the population.
The start of the service will be brought forward by 30 minutes, from the current 8:00 AM to 7:30 AM, with the last service remaining at 8:00 PM.
The frequency will also be increased, with daily service every 10 minutes in both directions, including weekends. The preliminary operation will remain free and open to all interested parties until the start of commercial operations.
This preliminary phase plays a crucial role in optimizing the Mondego Mobility System, which will begin commercial operation by the end of this year, offering regular trips on the urban stretch while conducting large-scale testing of vehicles, infrastructure, technical systems, operations management, and the passenger experience. The goal is to ensure the system's full, integrated operation and address any shortcomings before commercial operation.
The increased intensity of the preliminary operation is a clear sign that the Mondego Mobility System is increasingly closer to serving citizens, taking another step toward more sustainable, modern, and inclusive mobility.
